The Overland Track

Wow – what a cold trip! Unbeknown to us, the coldest blast to hit Tassie in 25 years arrived while we were three days in to our overland experience. All we knew was that it was very cold and unpleasant! I’ve done the track many times before, and will continue to guide it into the future – but this was by far the hardest trip I’d ever done. It was both cold and wet, there was deep snow in many places, and the track was very difficult to follow. I usually walk at about 75% of the rated times (ie, a 4hr walk takes me 3hrs) but this time, even the fasted walkers were taking 50% longer than the rated times. So a 4hr walk was taking 6hrs!

Consequently, there are only sporadic images from our 6 day walk. There were only a few times when I could stop long enough to get the camera out. But here they are, and we are all inspired to go back again - in the summer this time!
