About Glen

My passion is for being outdoors. I love working with people, taking risks, and am a compulsive problem-solver. But what do I actually do? I am based in Tasmania, Australia, where I work as an Engineer and Sales Manager for Lightning Protection International Pty Ltd. In addition to a product development role, I am also responsible for the company's sales in Tasmania, Victoria & New South Wales. To keep my off the streets, do web & software development, I'm a qualified Eco-Adventure guide, and of course; I photograph!

I have Diplomas in Art & Design (photography) and Engineering. I also hold a Cert III in both Tour Guiding, & Eco-Adventure Guiding. 2012 has involved a lot of office based work and interstate travel. These days I'm away about 50% of the time, and the remainder is spent in front of a computer! I try to get out-and-about as much as possible in the limited spare time I can find. This often means finding obscure and interesting mountains to climb in what ever part of the world I'm in, but it also includes spending a good part of August in the snow fields of NSW guiding for St Andrews Cathedral School.

What's the latest?

Sorry, but there's no news from twitter yet...

Guiding

Most seasons I guide for:

Guiding is the perfect job for me at the moment. I get to work with a diverse range of people, outside, and it can also offer some great photographic opportunities.

I'm continually encouraged in my guiding by the wonderful things clients have to say about the way I work, and how profoundly they're impacted by the trips I run.

If you've been on a trip with me, you can see the pre-release images I upload as soon as I return. Visit the Trips Gallery.

Software Development

I teach Computer Aided Design and other Graphics courses at Tasmanian Polytechnic and the University of Tasmania. I use these skills together with a sound knowledge of coding to undertake a wide range of programming jobs from a multinational Customer Relationship Management add-in for Outlook, to this web site! Other software products include HTML & Javascript based engineering calculators, and AutoCAD VB.NET applications.

Photography

And then there's the photography. I've always needed some sort of creative activity in my life and for the most part, this is achieved through photography. I have a Diploma of Art & Design (majoring in photography) and enjoy the balance of skill, luck, technical know-how, and creativity required to capture images.

I shoot a digital system with a combination of Nikon and Canon equipment. In addition to selling stock photography, I'm also available for commissioned shoots.

I continue to receive lovely feedback from my customers. Here are just a few:

"Glen, we love the photos SO MUCH! Thankyou!"

Heather, Tasmania - June 2011

"Thank you so much for the BEAUTIFUL photos. We are so happy with them!!"

Suzie, Tasmania - June 2010

WE RECEIVED THE PHOTOS! THEY ARE AMAZING!! We just got back from a trip to Egypt, and our neighbour had received them on our behalf. We showed him the photos and he was very impressed, as are we!

Linda, UK - April 2009
